Falco (1957-1998), born Johann Hölzel in Vienna, was one of Austria’s most successful and influential pop musicians. Known for international hits such as Der Kommissar, Rock Me Amadeus, and Jeanny, he combined pop, rock, and rap with a distinctive Viennese style.
In 1986, Rock Me Amadeus made music history by reaching No. 1 on the US Billboard charts, making Falco the only German-language artist ever to achieve this feat. His music and charismatic persona earned him worldwide recognition and a lasting place in pop culture.
Following his tragic death in a car accident in the Dominican Republic on 6 February 1998, Falco was laid to rest on 13 February 1998 at Vienna Central Cemetery. His funeral attracted tens of thousands of mourners and extensive international media coverage, becoming one of the most widely followed public farewells in Austria’s recent history.
Today, Falco’s honorary grave at Vienna Central Cemetery remains a place of remembrance and a popular destination for fans from around the world.

How to find Falco's Grave

Enter Vienna Central Cemetery through Gate 2 (Tor 2) and follow the main avenue straight ahead towards the cemetery church. At the roundabout, turn left towards Group 40 (Gruppe 40). The section dedicated to honorary graves of prominent artists and cultural figures. Falco’s striking black monument is clearly visible and easy to spot within the group.
